Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT is a logical and practical approach to help people with their emotional problems.  CBT was pioneered by Albert Ellis in the 1950’s and is one of the predominate therapies in use in psychology today. REBT is a form of CBT.

The premise of CBT is that our emotions and behaviour are a direct reflection of our thinking and our perception.  When we understand our thinking and choose to develop more adaptive thinking, we are able to release negative emotions and gain more positive behaviours.   Put another way, CBT is about personal responsibility and choice.

There is a wealth of evidence from peer reviewed research that cognitive behaviour therapy is highly effective.

My Performance Coach adopts a CBT/REBT approach in coaching as well as some of our training programs.  CBT is an excellent way to develop new thinking and new behaviours and is particularly useful in soft skills training.
